What should I bring on a trip?

Appropriate equipment, along with optional comfort items, are unique to the trip itself, the time of year, activities planned, and location. A gear list will be sent prior to a planned trip, along with logistics information such as weather forecasts from weather.com, updated route information from google maps or an equivelant, and nearby facilities in case of an emergency.

How much does it cost?

We don't charge anything for organization of these trips. That said, you are responsible for park entrance fees, food, equipment, and any other personal items you would like to have.

Are there bathrooms?

Plan for "no", as we have encountered facilities that are in much need of sanitation and repair even though they are "available". Our friends at LeavenoTrace.org have some excellent guidelines that can help...

"Proper disposal of human waste is important to avoid pollution of water sources, avoid the negative implications of someone else finding it, minimize the possibility of spreading disease and maximize the rate of decomposition.

In most locations, burying human feces in the correct manner is the most effective method to meet these criteria. Solid human waste must be packed out from some places, such as narrow river canyons. Land management agencies can advise you of specific rules for the area you plan to visit.

There are several EPA-approved, commercially produced pack-out systems available that are easy to use and sanitary for backpacking/hiking use. Other systems (including reusable, washable toilet systems) are bulkier and may be better suited for paddling/rafting trips. As more and more people enjoy parks and protected areas every year, packing out human waste is likely to become a more common practice to ensure long-term sustainability of our shared lands. In some environments, particularly in fragile alpine settings, land managers may require that all solid human waste must be packed out."

What if I've never been camping?

PERFECT!!! Sharing your level of experience with the group will help in the planning process. There are plenty of low-risk, high-reward camp opportunities that require little to no equipment.

Can I bring my kids?

ABSOLUTELY! It needs to be said that you are ultimately responsible for your children, trips are always planned with our little-explorers in mind. If you need help planning for their equipment or gear needs, please just ask.

Can I bring my dog?

Many places we visit will have loose regulations on where you can and cannot bring your furry friend. Some considerations before bringing your K-9 companion should be: do they have all appropriate vaccinations in case they encounter a stray dog that might not be as friendly? Is my dog capable of adapting to a new environment AND being around children who will likely try and pet or play with my dog? Does my dog get along with other dogs?

Bringing your fur-baby is ultimately your decision but it adds another element to group dynamics that should be carefully considered.

What are my transportation options?

Infrastructure is developing at different rates. That said, the major roads between departure and destination can be unpredictable. It is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle you use is well maintained, insured, and capable of the journey to and from the destination. Ride-Sharing and rental vehicles are also excellent opportunities to decrease our carbon footprint, and ensure the journey is safe and enjoyable.
